I was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1976. In 1984, we left Vietnam and stayed in refugee camps in Thailand and the Philippines, respectively. In 1985, we flew to the United States where I became a FORT BEND COUNTY RESIDENT. I came from an immigrant family. I was taught that through hard work, anything is possible.
I'm currently a full-time Sergeant with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Mike Nguyen began his law enforcement career in 2007, with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. He started as a detention officer and worked at the jail. That same year, he attended the Sheriff’s Academy and graduated as a Deputy Sheriff in August of 2008. He worked as a Reserve and was required to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per month; however, he did way above the minimum. Soon after, Sergeant Nguyen realized that this was the career he wanted to pursue and in 2009, he became a full-time Deputy with Harris County Sheriff’s Office. He was assigned to Patrol Division and his duties included district patrols. He was selected and became a Field Training Officer to train new deputies.
In 2012, Sergeant Nguyen was selected and became part of the prestigious Harris County Traffic Enforcement Division, currently known as the Vehicular Crimes Division, and trained at Northwestern University in Chicago for 5 weeks. He was responsible for investigating vehicle fatality crashes throughout Harris County. In 2016, he became trained in law enforcement motorcycle operation, and began doing extra work as a motor’s unit.
He was promoted to Sergeant in 2017 and moved to the Harris County Jail where he took a supervisory role. His duties included supervising Detention Officers and Deputies, maintaining order, ensuring State and Federal guidelines were met, and enforcing State laws. A year later, he moved to the Property Room where he handled important evidence pertaining to high profile cases, and briefly did work in Backgrounds Investigations.
Sergeant Nguyen is currently a Patrol supervisor in the west and southwest Harris County area bordering Fort Bend County. Training and Certification is extensive for Sergeant Nguyen. This includes Accident Investigator, Intoxilyzer Operator (certificate #23735), Drug Recognition Expert, SFST, and TCOLE Instructor. He has a proven arrest record, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a passion for arresting DWI’s.
Sergeant Nguyen has received many recognitions and accolades such as Deputy of the Month, Commendation from Houston Police Chief, Commendation from Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, a Traffic Enforcement Division Unit Citation award, Greater Houston Asian Association Deputy of the Year, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) recognition, and the Outstanding Services Achievement Award as a supervisor.
